Much debate is going on in the industry as to whether ESG investing results in superior risk-adjusted returns. And given the variety of approaches to ESG investing and some of the challenges in measuring the data, it is a difficult question to answer. According to Leslie, public markets data shows that there are no immediate short-term gains, but longer term there is data to support that a focus on sustainability or climate focus does result in higher returns.
